# Unlocking an account or resetting the password on Local Run Manager version 4

**To reset the Local Run Manager (LRM) password:**

Step 1: Verify Version of Local Run Manager

* The LRM version is listed at the bottom of the login page as shown below
* If the version is a 3.X or lower, reach out to [Illumina Technical Support](https://www.illumina.com/company/contact-us.html#/united-states/technical-support) for help resetting the password.
* If the version is listed as 4.X, continue troubleshooting below.

Step 2: Use the "Forgot your password?" feature to reset the password

1. Select "Forgot your password?"
2. Input the username and the answers to the security questions
3. Follow the prompts to reset the password

**If the answers to the security questions are invalid or the account is listed as locked, the account can be reset by performing the following steps:**

Step 1: Generate a Request ID.

1. Navigate to the LRM Login page on Chromium browser <https://localhost/#/login>
2. Within the web address bar, replace "login" with "generaterequestid" so the new URL address is: <https://localhost/#/generaterequestid> then press **Enter**.
3. Enter the Requestor Name (1-50 characters, allow alphanumeric, space, and period. Case sensitive) and select **Generate Request ID**.

* Make note of the input used for the Requestor Name as it is required in a future step.

4. Copy or export the Request ID to a text file and email it to <techsupport@illumina.com> along with the serial number of the sequencer.

**Step 2: Create a new administrative LRM Account**

1. When Illumina Technical Support provides the access code, navigate to LRM Login page on browser <https://localhost/#/login>
2. Within the web address bar, replace "login" with "adminuserregistration". For example, the new URL address is: <https://localhost/#/adminuserregistration> and press **Enter**.
3. Enter the following to create a new LRM Admin Account.
   1. Requestor Name (same that was created earlier, must be in lower case letters)
   2. Access Code
   3. New admin user name and TEMPORARY Password
   * The New Admin user name must be different from any existing user name currently registered in LRM and must be all lower case letters
4. Login to the new LRM Admin Account
5. Update the password
6. Update the security questions

**Step 3: Unlock/reset the password and security questions for account that was inaccessible.**

1. Navigate to **Tools** > **Account Management**
2. Select the pencil icon next to the account that is locked or the account that needs the password reset
3. Select **Unlock User** if account is locked
4. Enter a temporary password and logout of current account
5. Login to user account with the temporary password
6. Create a new password
7. Update the Security questions

To reduce lockouts, customize login attempts and password reset reminders:

1. Navigate to **Tools** > **System Settings**
2. Under the Security tab update **User Lockout** to adjust allowed login attempts before lockout and the Password Reset Reminder.
