# How to troubleshoot CIB Fault Initialization errors on the NovaSeq X/X Plus

The NovaSeq X Series Control Software will verify a stable connection to the Camera Interface Board (CIB) during initialization. This results in one of three outcomes:

1. The CIB responds as expected, and initialization will proceed normally.
2. The CIB times out or is in a bad state, but the Software automatically recovers the connection.
3. The CIB times out and the Software is not able to recover the connection.

**If the CIB Fault is recovered automatically**

If the CIB times out or is in a bad state, the NovaSeq X Series Control Software will automatically attempt to recover the CIB connection. If this recovery attempt is successful, the following error will be displayed.

If this error presents, see the following Troubleshooting Actions:

1. **Do not** shutdown or power cycle the instrument.
2. Select **Exit Application** and restart the NovaSeq X Series Control Software.
3. If initialization is successful, proceed with normal instrument workflow.

**If the CIB connection does not recover automatically**

If the Control Software is not able to recover the CIB connection, it will interrupt software initialization with the following error.

If this error presents, see the following Troubleshooting Actions:

1. **Do not** shutdown or power cycle the instrument.
2. Select **Exit Application** and restart the NovaSeq X Series Control Software.
   1. If initialization is successful, proceed with normal instrument workflow.
   2. If the error persists, repeat Step 2 up to two additional times.
3. If the issue persists after three attempts to restart the NovaSeq X Series Control Software, contact [Illumina Technical Support](https://www.illumina.com/company/contact-us.html).
