Allowed characters for Run Names and Sample IDs in Local Run Manager v3
The run name is the name that identifies the run from sequencing through analysis. A run name can have up to 40 characters and must be unique. The run description is optional and can have up to 150 alphanumeric characters. For both options, alphanumeric characters, spaces, and the following special characters are allowed:

Only alphanumeric characters, dashes, and underscores may be used for Sample IDs and Sample Descriptions. Spaces are not allowed in these fields. The Sample_ID length is limited to a maximum of 40 characters.
The above information above applies to sample sheets imported into Local Run Manager (LRM) v3 as well.
LRM will prompt an error if there are illegal characters present.
MiSeq Control Software (MCS) will prompt an error if the sample sheet contains illegal characters.
LRM will prompt error if a Sample ID exceed 40 characters.
MCS v4 will prompt an error if a Sample ID exceed 40 characters.
