# Troubleshooting "Additional instrument configuration is required" Issues on the MiSeq i100 Series

**Background**

The MiSeq i100 Series instrument requires that an External Storage location is configured, and that at least one default output folder is selected for that External Storage location.

If a default output folder is not configured, the following error presents when running the Export Logs workflow or setting up a sequencing run:

![](/files/DTFjVgg8pEf2Ad0olLJC)

Additional instrument configuration is required. External Storage folder is required to export logs.

**Resolution Actions**

1. Log into the MiSeq i100 Series Control Software using an **Administrator** account.
2. Select the dropdown menu in the top-left corner, then select **Settings** and then **External Storage**.
3. From the External Storage user interface (UI), select the **Add folders** button under the *Default folder* header, then select **Add folder** in the *Data storage folders* UI.
4. Use the **Server Location** dropdown menu to select the intended configured **External Storage** location.
5. Once the list of **Available folders** on the storage populates, select the intended output folder on the External Storage location to serve as the default output folder.
   1. **Optional**: Add a nickname for the folder if desired.
6. Select **Save** in the bottom right corner, then select **Save** on the *Data storage folders* UI.
