# Troubleshooting RFID errors on NextSeq 500/550

These types of errors can occur during run setup when consumables are loaded into the instrument. These can be due to a transient communication issue with the Radio-frequency identification (RFID) sensor, a broken sensor, or a fault in the consumable RFID.

Unlike the MiSeq, there is no bypass code that can be used as an option to bypass the error on the NextSeq 500/550.

The error may appear as: "***Cannot read information off inserted buffer bottle***"

![](/files/c8NVRd7d6xSlZIxXuGB3)

This second error may occur with the buffer cartridge, as sometimes during loading, the NextSeq 500/550 may read the wash buffer cartridge present in the instrument after loading the flow cell.

**Troubleshooting steps:**

1. Re-seat/reinsert consumable.
2. Power cycle\* the instrument.
3. If issue persists, try a new consumable.

* If resolved, it is most likely an RFID issue with the consumable. Contact [Illumina Technical Support](https://www.illumina.com/company/contact-us.html#/united-states/technical-support) with the serial/lot number of the reagent to request a replacement.

4. If steps 1-3 do not resolve the issue, this indicates an issue with the RFID sensor on the instrument. Contact [Illumina Technical Support](https://www.illumina.com/company/contact-us.html#/united-states/technical-support) for further assistance.
