# Troubleshooting LRM error "Valid index kit must be provided for the selected library prep kit"

Users running MiSeq Control software (MCS) v4 with Local Run Manager (LRM) v3 may have issues using Illumina Experiment Manager to generate compatible sample sheets. Because Illumina Experiment Manager (IEM) and LRM v3 format information differently,IEM sample sheets are not compatible with LRM v3 and **cannot** be converted to LRM v3 sample sheets.

When users import an IEM sample sheet into LRM v3 during new run set up, it will trigger an error message "*a valid index kit must be provided for the selected library prep kit"*.

Users can instead download the [Template Sample Sheet from the desired LRM module](https://customprotocolselector.illumina.com/selectors/LRM-module-selector/Content/Source/FrontPages/LRM-module-selector.htm), manually populate the information, and upload the new sample sheet back into the module when setting up a new run in LRM v3. Users may also directly input run information into LRM v3 new run set up without using the Import Sample Sheet function.

**IEM generated sample sheets are also NOT compatible with the MiSeq Control Software (MCS) v4 Sample Sheet mode Run Setup Option.** Errors will occur if an IEM sample sheet is used to try to set up a new run within MCS v4. Properly formatted sample sheets can be created within LRM v3, or via templates downloaded directly from LRM or from the Illumina Support website. Further instructions can be found in the Illumina Knowledge Article [How to find sample sheet templates for MiSeq Control Software (MCS) v4.0 Local Run Manager](https://knowledge.illumina.com/instrumentation/miseq/instrumentation-miseq-reference_material-list/000003882).
