BaseSpace Sequence Hub archival storage FAQs

1) What data should be archived?

Data that is not accessed frequently but cannot be deleted either. Archiving offers significant cost savings over standard BaseSpace storage.

Runs, including all files within the Data folder. FASTQ and Dataset files, including all files within a dataset.

4) Do archive data still show up on BaseSpace? How to tell them apart from data in normal storage?

Yes, archived data show up on BaseSpace; however, they can be filtered out, if needed.

To identify archived data, review the following.

Runs: The File Status of runs can either be “Active” or “Archived”. The File Status column can be used to filter out archived runs from the runs master list.

Only the summary, metrics, and sample sheet details are available for archived runs.

Datasets: Archived datasets can be filtered out using the File Status filter from ‘Project > FASTQs’ or ‘Project > Other Datasets’ lists; There is no File Status column.

Projects with archived datasets cannot be shared or transferred.

5) Who can archive and restore data?

The archive feature is available to Professional and Enterprise tier users only; data must to be stored in a workgroup in order to be archivable.

The workgroup must have ‘Application Version’ set to ‘New’ (as opposed to ‘Classic’); only the owner of the workgroup can change the application version.

6) How to archive data on BaseSpace?

  1. Open the page for the data to be archived. To archive multiple items, select the items on the Runs list, FASTQs tab, or Other Datasets tab. Up to 250 items can be archived at one time.

  2. From the File menu, point to Archive, and then select Archive Data. BaseSpace Sequence Hub reviews the selections and excludes ineligible data (such as runs owned by other users).

  1. In the Archive Data dialog, verify the items, then select Archive Data. BaseSpace Sequence Hub moves the data to archival storage. Data is not available and cannot be restored until archiving is complete.

**7)**How soon can archived data be restored?

Archived data can be restored as soon as it is fully archived. However, both the archiving and restoring processes can take up to several days each. There are no early restore or deletion fees.

8) Can archived data be deleted directly?

Yes, archived data can be deleted directly; however, it counts towards storage until it is permanently removed from trash (trash is emptied).

9) How to restore archived data?

  1. Open the page for the data to be restored. To restore multiple runs, select the items on the Runs list, FASTQs tab, or Other Datasets tab. Up to 250 items can be selected at one time.

  2. From the File menu, point to Archive, and then select Restore Data.

  3. In the Restore Data dialog, verify the items, and then select Restore Data. The restored data are available for use and charged at standard storage rates.
