The primary changes introduced in BaseSpace Sequence Hub v7.12 are as follows.
The option to toggle between New and Classic mode has been removed.
Both Biosample and Sample tabs are now present on Run and Project summary pages.
Launching an app now requests the user choose between the two.
What is the difference between Biosamples and Samples?
Biosamples are associated with all libraries sequenced and analyzed to output to this sample ID, and were the default basic unit of data for the New mode of BaseSpace. Samples are the output of a single library's sequencing and analysis, and were the default basic unit of data for the Classic mode of BaseSpace. See the Data Model page for more information.
For labs that previously used the Classic BaseSpace because workflow requirements for sample naming caused issues with how New BaseSpace handled Biosamples, what are the next steps?
Use Samples rather than Biosamples to initiate analyses in a way that mimics Classic Mode.
For labs that have been using Classic BaseSpace, what assistance is available for finding where things are now?
The v5.6 release notes contain an overview of the changes introduced with New Mode when it was first released, though some additional features have been changed since then.
Between Biosamples and Samples, which option to select when starting an analysis to stay consistent with prior analyses?
If previously using New mode, select Biosamples. If previously using Classic, select Samples.
Does this impact pre-existing data on BaseSpace, or create an inconsistency with new data uploaded or analyzed going forward?
No, the only change is in how input data is selected for analysis. "Analyze using biosamples" functions the same as New Mode analyses prior, and "Analyze using samples" as Classic Mode analyses prior.
