Illumina does not provide specific recommendations on how to dispose of reagents or consumables, as each state and institution has different laws and regulations. Illumina does provide Safety Data Sheets for all reagents and consumables. The SDS can be accessed at via the SDS query tool by entering the part number of the reagent or box, or the kit catalog number into the search box.
For the iSeq 100 cartridge, several SDS cover each reagent present within the cartridge. Consult local Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) team or safety office for their guidance on how to dispose of the cartridge in consideration of the information within the SDS.
Both the iSeq 100 reagent cartridge and flow cell are considered solid waste. Once a run is complete, the flow cell no longer contains any hazardous material and can be disposed of with other non-hazardous electronic waste due to the circuit board components within the flow cell.
The reagent cartridge contains all liquids, including a small amount of formamide. Though there is liquid inside the cartridge, it is to be considered solid waste and, as mentioned previously, must be disposed of per local guidelines when dealing with solid, hazardous waste. For further information, see Knowledge Base article What is the final formamide concentration in the waste solution of Illumina sequencing systems?.
