# How to Perform a NextSeq 500/550 Power Cycle

**NextSeq 500/550 Power Cycle Instructions**

* From the instrument home screen, select **Manage Instrument.**
* Select **System Shut down Options.**
* Select **Shut Down** (this will shut down software and turn off instrument power).
* Wait two minutes before turning on the instrument from the button in front.
* Wait for software initialization back to the Home Screen.

For NextSeq Control Software (NCS) 4.0/Windows 10 there other options available if the Control Software is not accessible:

1. Within Windows, use the **Start** > **Illumina** > **NextSeq Shut down** option. This will mimic shutting down through the Control Software and is the best alternate recommendation.
2. Open the Windows command prompt and use the shutdown /s command.
   1. If this option is used, toggle the switch on the back of the instrument and wait 2 minutes before powering back up.

Note: If the NextSeq Control Software or the Windows OS is frozen/nonresponsive and there are no available options to shut down, hold the front power button down for 10-20 seconds to turn off the instrument. Toggle the power switch on the back of the instrument and wait 2 minutes before powering the instrument back on.
