# How to troubleshoot NovaSeq 6000 light bar issues

The NovaSeq 6000 light bars change color to indicate different instrument states. If the light bars are not changing to the correct colors, it is most likely due to a transient instrument communication issue.

**Important note:** The NovaSeq 6000 light bars do **not** impact run performance and incorrect coloration cannot cause a run to stop.

**To troubleshoot**:

* If both sides are idle, close and reopen the NovaSeq Control Software.
* If the issue persists, power cycle the instrument.
  * For more information on the power cycle, search for Knowledge Base article **How to Power Cycle the NovaSeq 6000 System?**
* If the issue persists after the power cycle, contact [Illumina Technical Support](https://www.illumina.com/company/contact-us.html#/united-states/technical-support) for the next steps.
