# Troubleshooting Control Software stuck "Waiting for Safe State" on MiniSeq and NextSeq 500/550

MiniSeq or NextSeq 500/550 instruments may stall sequencing at Cycle 5. This may occur in conjunction with "Waiting for Safe State" notification, or when attempting to stop the run, this message may appear and the instrument Control Software will not progress. This is indicative of software issues with Real Time Analysis (RTA2) and will require a full reboot of the instrument to correct. To perform this action:

1. Press and hold the power button on the front of the instrument for 10 seconds (until the screen turns black)
2. Wait 3-5 minutes before turning on instrument using the power button
3. Wait until software initializes back to the Home Screen

If the instrument fails to initialize properly, contact [Illumina Technical Support.](https://www.illumina.com/company/contact-us.html#/united-states/technical-support)
