# Preparing a Bleach (Sodium Hypochlorite) Solution for Infinium Workflows

Infinium assay best practices include daily and weekly bleaching procedures to help maintain a clean laboratory environment and minimize the risk of contamination. A 10% bleach solution is recommended for cleaning Infinium glass back plates, laboratory work surfaces, and some of the equipment used in Infinium workflows.

Commercial bleach contains approximately 5.25% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) and should be diluted to prepare a 10% bleach working solution.

#### Preparation of a 10% Bleach Solution

A 10% bleach solution corresponds to a final sodium hypochlorite concentration of approximately 0.525%, which is commonly rounded to 0.5% NaOCl.

To prepare 1 L of 10% bleach solution:

* Add **100 ml** of bleach (5.25% sodium hypochlorite) to **900 ml** of deionized water (DI H₂O).
* Mix thoroughly before use.

**Caution:** Bleach is an irritant and should be handled with care. When preparing or using the solution, wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including a lab coat, safety glasses or goggles, and gloves.
