# Mitigating Instrument Platform Services Errors on the MiSeq i100 Series

**Background**

The Control Software on the MiSeq i100 Series establishes a connection between the user-facing control computer and the internal compute engine that manages data processing. If this connection is not established successfully, the Control Software presents the following error:

![](/files/up4IrLhpKSusEWUQtihs)

There was a problem with instrument platform services. You can try to restart the control software, or shutdown and restart the instrument.

If this issue presents, select **Restart Application** to restart the Control Software and allow the Software to re-establish the connection between the two computers.

Do **NOT** select Shut down as this can frequently result in the issue persisting. If the issue persists after selecting **Restart Application**, contact [Illumina Tech Support](https://www.illumina.com/company/contact-us.html).
