# How to add new NovaSeq X Series Control Software users on the NovaSeq X/X Plus

The NovaSeq X/X Plus requires user authentication when logging into the Control Software to perform normal sequencing run operations, as well as Control Software configuration tasks. See the following instructions for adding new user accounts to the NovaSeq X Series Control Software.

**How to add a new Control Software User**

1. Select the instrument icon to open the global navigation menu.
2. Select **Settings**, and then select **Users**.
3. Select **Add user**.
4. Enter the following information:

* User name
* First name
* Last name

5. Select the **User enabled** checkbox to set the user status as **Active**.
6. Enter a password.

* The user changes the password when they first sign in. Refer to Password Requirements for password recommendations.

7. To add a user as an Administrator, select the *Administrators* checkbox.

* To make sure that the Administrator can access all permissions, leave the *Sequencing Operators* checkbox selected.

8. Select **Save** when finished.

**Password Requirements**

Password Length: 8-64 characters\
Minimum password character requirements:

* 1 upper case
* 1 lower case
* 1 numerical character
* 1 special character

Password History: Cannot match the previous 5 passwords
