# Disk Management on the NextSeq 1000/2000

The NextSeq 1000/2000 local hard drive space must be managed via the *Disk Management* option in the control software.

The NextSeq 1000/2000 temporary folder is located at /usr/local/Illumina/runs/\[runfolder] and is a complete local copy of the output folder.

* Deleting the temporary folder manually outside of Disk Management can result in negative consequences.

A sequencing run requires \~200 GB (and up to 600 GB) of local hard drive space.

A warning notification may appear when space is low.

**Note:** A Pre-Run Check warning will appear if any Operating System (OS) partition is over 70% full, though sequencing runs can proceed after this warning is acknowledged. If any partition reaches over 90% full, the Pre-Run Check prevents further sequencing runs from starting and space must be cleared.

Use the following steps to delete completed runs and/or genomes to clear hard drive space, as needed.

1. From the control software menu select **Disk Management.**

* The Disk Management screen appears with a list of runs and reference genomes saved to the local hard drive.

2. For the run to be deleted, select **Delete Run**

* Deleting a run deletes the local run folder. The output folder, which is a copy of the run folder, is retained.

3. In the dialog box, select **Yes, Delete Run** to confirm deleting the run.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for each run to be deleted.
5. For deleting a genome, select **Delete Genome.**
6. In the dialog box, select **Yes, Delete Genome.**
7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for each genome that needs to be deleted.
8. When finished, close Disk Management and return to the Home screen.
