# Reagent Expiration Date Definition

The Expiration Date of Illumina Reagents reflects the final date in which Illumina guarantees their expected performance. Expiration Dates are valid until the end of the specified day.

Research Use Only (RUO) products are guaranteed to ship with a minimum viable shelf-life of **three months from the date of shipment, and Illumina does not recommend using expired reagents**. If using expired sequencing reagent kits to start a run, the Control Software for all instruments will display a warning but will not prevent users from starting a run.

When using expired reagents, Illumina can't guarantee their performance and any failures involving their use are **not covered by any warranties** as per Illumina's Replacement Policy.
