# How to stop and restart Universal Copy Service manually on the NovaSeq 6000

Universal Copy Service (UCS) might need to be restarted if data transfer is stalled copying to BaseSpace Sequence Hub and/or a network location.

**To restart UCS:**

* Make sure that the instrument is not running on either side.
* Close NovaSeq Control Software.
* Navigate to Task Manager and end task for UCS process (called ucs.exe or universal-copy-service): right-click on the process and choose "End Task."
* Restart UCS either by:
  * Re-starting the NovaSeq Control Software. Restarting control software automatically reboots Universal Copy Service.
  * Or by navigating into C:\ProgramFiles\Illumina\UniversalCopyService and double-clicking ucs.exe or universal-copy-service.exe.\
    \- If restarting from C:\ProgramFiles\Illumina\UniversalCopyService, a black window appears to show UCS progress.
* **Note**: Upload may be slightly delayed. To assess the progress of upload to BaseSpace, view the file size increase in the run summary.
* If the issue with data transfer persists, contact [Illumina Technical Support](https://www.illumina.com/company/contact-us.html#/united-states/technical-support) for the next steps.
