How to configure MiSeq Reporter to use a network location as the default output folder

The MiSeq Reporter software is responsible for generating FASTQ and other analysis files from the sequencing run data. See the following steps to configure the MiSeq Reporter software to output these files directly to a network storage location.

  1. Make sure the MiSeq instrument control computer is on the same domain as the server that will be used as the network storage location.

    1. To check this, go to the Windows Start menu and right-click Computer.

    2. Select Properties and check the Domain name under 'Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings'.

  2. Change the MiSeq Reporter Service to Run as sbsuser:

    1. On the MiSeq, from the Windows Start menu, enter run in the Search field and press the Enter key.

    2. In the Run dialog box, enter services.msc

    3. In the Services window, scroll down to locate MiSeq Reporter, right-click, and select Properties.

    4. Select the 'Log On' tab.

    5. Click 'This account' and enter .\sbsuser

    6. Enter the sbsuser password in the 'Password' field.

    7. Select 'Apply' then 'OK'.

    8. Back in the Services app, right-click on MiSeq Reporter and select 'Restart'.

  3. Consult with the local IT team to make sure that the local sbsuser account on the MiSeq has read/write privileges to the desired output folder on the server.

    1. To test read access on the MiSeq, open Windows Explorer and enter the fully qualified Universal Naming Convention (UNC) path to the folder in the address bar, then press Enter.

    2. To test write access on the MiSeq, open Windows Explorer and navigate to the network location, then create a new folder or text file.

    3. If there are errors with either of these actions, consult with the local IT team to resolve the read/write permission issues.

  4. In the MiSeq Control Software (MCS), set the MiSeq Output folder to the location of the Output folder on the Windows server.

    1. On the MiSeq Welcome screen, select Run Options.

    2. On the Run Options screen, select the Folder Settings tab.

    3. Enter the location of the network folder using the fully qualified UNC path.

      1. Example: \server_ipaddress\share\output\

    4. Click Save and Return.

Note: If MiSeq Reporter software is updated or reinstalled, repeat all the steps listed in these instructions.
