# Computer Hardware Specifications for NovaSeq 6000

The NovaSeq 6000 includes two computer systems, the Compute Engine (CE) and the Control Computer (SBC). The SBC is a Windows-based computer mapped to the C and D drive, whereas the CE is a Linux-based computer mapped to the Z:\ drive and stores .cbcl data before copying to the network drive.

**Specifications for each drive on NovaSeq6000:**

**Single-Board Computer (SBC):** total available space is 250 GB (partitioned into C:\ and D:\ drives).

* **C drive** - *174 GB available*
  * Windows 10 Version: Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC.
  * Contains Windows and Maintenance Logs.
  * Contains information from NovaSeq Control Software (NVCS), NovaSeq Service Software (NVSS), and Universal Copy Service (UCS).
  * Responsible for USB and Ethernet port management.
  * Requires the following amount of space to start a run:\
    \- SP run: 5 GB\
    \- S1 run: 20 GB\
    \- S2 run: 20 GB\
    \- S4 run: 40 GB
* **D drive** - *64 GB*
  * Stores instrument performance data.
  * The instrument will manage the data on this drive automatically in most cases.

**Compute Engine (CE) drive (Linux):** Early models have 2.85 TB; Current production models have 3.14 TB of space available.

* Runs Real Time Analysis v3 (RTA3) and handles data processing.
* Will be mapped as the Z:\ drive.
* Has a single folder, 'outputfolder' that will have the run data.
* Requires the following amount of space **per cycle** to start run:
  * S1 run: 1.35 GB
  * S2 run: 5.4 GB
  * S4 run: 4.3 GB
* Runs must be backed up to a network location (either local network or BaseSpace Sequence Hub).
* Disc space is checked at the start of each run (clear space using Process Management **only**).
* Requires 1 GB ethernet connection.
* Recommended using CAT-6 shielded cable.
* 200 MB/s upload speed for Base Space Sequence Hub (BSSH) (5 MB/s for Proactive data).
* Dedicated internal IP connections. For more information, refer to NovaSeq 6000 [Site Prep Guide](https://support.illumina.com/downloads/novaseq-site-prep-guide-1000000019360.html).
* A network card capable of up to 1 Gbps speed is required.
* Information about the power cord:
  * NovaSeq 6000 instrument ships with UPS ([Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) Models by Instrument and Troubleshooting](https://knowledge.illumina.com/instrumentation/general/instrumentation-general-reference_material-list/000005838)).
  * User socket to the uninterruptible power supply (UPS) uses power cord: NEMA-L6-20P to C19 This is a US/ Canada/ South America (not Brazil) cord & is 8 ft (2.5 m) long.
  * Other regions have different cords, but all are typically 2.5 meters long.
  * UPS backup outlet to NovaSeq 6000 uses power cord: C20 to C19. This is used on almost all UPS (not Japan) and is 2 meters (6 ft) long.
  * UPS cord connects to electrical supply with locking connection plug (type L6-20P), which needs an L6-20R socket.

**The NovaSeq 6000 computer name can be changed with the following steps.**

* File Explorer, right-click on "This PC" and select Properties.
* In properties, select "Change settings" for the computer name, domain, and workgroup settings.
