# Troubleshooting 'Failed to start First Time Setup' Errors on the MiSeq i100 Series Instruments

**Background**

The First Time Setup workflow assists with setting up an Administrator account, networking, and performing a System Health Check. If the Control Software is not able to proceed with starting the System Health Checks, the following error message displays:

**Figure 1**: Critical System Error: Failed to start First Time Setup: Analysis is ongoing. System Checks cannot be started.

This issue generally presents when the DRAGEN Manager service is attempting to perform the DRAGEN license check and is not getting a response, typically due to network security restrictions. If this issue presents, see the following instructions.

**Troubleshooting Actions**

1. Allow the instrument to remain idle for **minimum of 1 hour** on the error screen.
2. Select **Restart application** to restart the Control Software. Do not power cycle the instrument.
3. After initialization, the instrument will restart **First Time Setup**. Navigate through the screens, confirming that the information was correctly saved from the first attempt.
4. Once the First Time Setup is complete, proceed to starting the **System Health Checks**.

If the issue persists, please contact [Illumina Tech Support](https://www.illumina.com/company/contact-us.html) for further assistance.
