How to properly configure Decode File Client for networks using proxy servers

Follow the steps to properly configure Decode File Client to work with networks using proxy servers.

  1. Verify access to the required s3 URLs and IP addresses. For further information, search for Knowledge Base article Decode File Client Troubleshooting Guide.

  2. Re-configure the config file for Decode File Client to enable it to work with proxy servers (see below). This requires admin access for the computer.

  3. Email technical support at techsupport@illumina.com to obtain the DmapFileWebServiceClient.exe.config_proxymod.txt file.

  4. Open the file and search for (without the quotes): "ENTERPROXYADDRESSHERE"

  5. Replace this placeholder text with the proxy address for the site.

  6. Save the file on the Desktop area (for now).

  7. On the computer, navigate to the current config file in the DFC folder: C:\Program Files\Illumina\Illumina Decode File Client\DmapFileWebServiceClient.exe.config

  8. Move the original config file out of the Illumina Decode File Client directory.

  • Move this file to the Desktop for safe keeping while validating the new config file.

  1. Move the newly updated proxymod config file into this same location (C:\Program Files\Illumina\Illumina Decode File Client).

  2. Remove '_proxymod' from the file name of the updated config file. It must now have the exact same name that the original file had, and be saved in the exact same location.

  3. Try downloading DMAPs.

It may take a few attempts to determine the appropriate proxy address to add into this document. If the first attempt does not work, ask the local IT group if there is a different address; at some sites, the general proxy address does not work but the local IT has been able to provide a proxy address that does work.

Since going through a proxy server may delay the communication time, the proxy modification configured version of the config file includes an increase in the Timeout setting from 3 minutes to 10 minutes.
