# Introducing the Illumina NovaSeq X System

**Background**

Coinciding with the v1.3 NovaSeq X Control Software release, Illumina is launching the NovaSeq X Sequencing System, a single-sided version of the NovaSeq X Series platform.

**Important Notes for the NovaSeq X Sequencing System:**

* The instrument can sequence all available NovaSeq X Series Kit configurations.
* The instrument will be single-sided, and will only allow sequencing on Side A of the instrument.

* The NovaSeq X instrument is fully upgradeable to a NovaSeq X Plus instrument. The upgrade is performed by an Illumina Field Service Engineer (FSE) only. Contact your local Sales team for further information.

**Maintenance Notes for the NovaSeq X Instrument:**

* The System Check within the Control Software are programed to test side A only.
* The NovaSeq X instrument comes with 1 wash flow cell and 1 wash cartridge set to allow Side A maintenance washes.
* The Control Software allows the user to open the front doors for Sides A and B for the Air Filter replacement by clicking "Unlock doors" option in the Control Software > Settings.
