# How often does the NovaSeq 6000 wash flow cell need to be replaced?

Replace wash flow cells when they become visibly worn. Contact Illumina Technical Support (<techsupport@illumina.com>) for assistance replacing wash flow cells.

Wash flow cells do not contain any chemistry, so consistent replacement is not necessary.

As an alternative to a wash flow cell, a used S4 flow cell can be used as a wash flow cell.
