# Troubleshooting 'Installation failure. Check installed software and try again.' error

The notification "**Installation failure. Check installed software and try again.**" may appear when an installer is run on an instrument which *does not* require the software. This notification may appear if the installer is run:

1. On the incorrect system.
2. Wrong side of the system (for example: running Dx installer on Research Only Use (RUO) side).
3. Run on a system that does **not** meet the hardware requirements for the installer (for example: Windows 7 instruments).

The installer will cancel the installation process and no changes to the instrument will be made. Installer files are platform specific, ensure you are executing the correct installer for the specific platform you have.
