# System error detected please power cycle and perform system checks error on the iSeq 100

The "System error detected please power cycle and perform system checks error" on the iSeq 100 can be caused by multiple factors and indicates that the instrument experienced some type of communication error, usually caused by one of the following.

#### 1. Sample sheet in manual mode saved to network or thumb drive.

* The error will likely occur during a sequencing run causing it to abort prematurely.
* Mitigation: Always save the sample sheet locally on the instrument.

#### 2. Instrument is not connected to the internet, and the control software is looking for software updates.

* Mitigation: Do one of the following.
  * Connect the instrument to the internet.
  * Update settings to turn off "Autocheck for software updates" in the "System Customization" tab of "System Settings."

3. Incorrectly Named Drives - If the "Data" drive is set to a letter drive other than "D:", this can cause this error to occur

* Check the D:\ drive name convention.
* If a different drive is named "Data", Contact Illumina Technical Support

#### 4. Network issues

* To confirm, restore to factory default settings and **do not** reconnect to the network once completed. Perform runs locally to see if the error repeats. If the error does not repeat, the error is likely caused by the network setting. For further information, search for Knowledge Base article **Restore to Factory Settings Option on iSeq 100**.

If the issue persists, contact [Illumina Technical Support](https://www.illumina.com/company/contact-us.html#/united-states/technical-support) for further assistance.
