# Validated USB Storage Devices for NovaSeq X Series Control Software v1.3.1

**Background**

The following list of USB storage devices are validated to function as expected on NovaSeq X Series instruments running Control Software v1.3.1. Additionally, users can transfer files on and off the instrument using network storage.

*USB Storage Devices*

When using USB storage devices with NovaSeq X Series Control Software v1.3.1, Illumina recommends using the following validated devices. Users are advised not to connect any USB storage devices to their NovaSeq X Series instrument, especially during a run due to increased risk of run termination and instrument reboot.

**Transferring Files on the NovaSeq X Series**

*Network Storage*

The NovaSeq X Series instruments running Control Software v1.3 and above create a user-accessible storage mount when a network storage is configured through External Storage. To access this network storage mount and transfer files on and off the instrument, see the following steps.

1. From the instrument home screen, select the **instrument icon**, then select **Settings**, then select **Minimize Software**.
2. Select **Activities** menu, then open the **Files** application.
3. Select **Other Locations** from the quick links menu on the left, then select **Computer**, then select the /mnt directory.
4. The configured External Storage locations are listed under the /mnt directory as either /smb-xxxx or /nfs-xxxx and can be accessed by double-clicking the folder.
