# Can a NextSeq 1000/2000 sequencing run be set up with fewer than 26 cycles in read 1?

Yes, it is possible to enter fewer than 26 cycles in read 1 from local run setup. The NextSeq 1000/2000 control software will display a warning that sequencing 26 cycles or more in read 1 is recommended for accurate calculation of sequencing metrics. Acknowledge the warning and continue with consumable loading.

Illumina does not support runs with fewer than 26 cycles for read 1.
