# Can a NextSeq 1000/2000 reagent cartridge be used if the foil packaging has been pierced?

Illumina does not recommend using a NextSeq 1000/2000 reagent cartridge if the foil has been pierced in any way prior to thawing. If there are any rips, tears, or holes in the foil package upon opening the reagent cartridge box, contact [Illumina Technical Support](https://www.illumina.com/company/contact-us.html#/united-states/technical-support).

Store reagent cartridges in the original box to help prevent rips or tears to the foil.
