# Troubleshooting NextSeq 1000/2000 Control Software failure to initialize with cartridge error

**Background and Potential Causes**: This error can occur if the instrument is improperly power cycled with the reagent cartridge and flow cell still inside the instrument. Upon restarting the control software, it can fail to initialize.

**Error Message:** SystemStartupException Initialization failed on Cartridge Interface Module

**Troubleshooting steps:**
