How to install Windows Critical Security Updates
Illumina encourages customers to apply Illumina-tested operating system security patches on a regular basis. Illumina tests critical operating system security patches to verify compatibility with Illumina systems running the most recent version of instrument software. Installation instructions and tested updates can be found on Operating System Security Updates. - Contact the local/institutional IT for future Windows Critical Security updates.
Double-click the security patch file and select Yes when prompted to install the update.
Select Close at the 'Download and Install Updates' dialogue box.
Note: When the installation is complete, there may be a prompt to restart the computer.
Confirm Security Patch Installation
Double-click the security patch file again to confirm the installation.
A dialogue box “Security Update for Windows (xxxxx) is already installed on this computer” will pop up to confirm successful installation.
Disable Windows Updates. It is critical to disable Windows Updates to avoid future sequencing runs being impacted by auto-updates.
Select the Windows Start button and enter Services into the dialogue box.
Select Services.
Right-click on Windows Update and select Properties.
In the Properties window, change 'Startup type' to 'Disabled'.
Select OK and close the Services window.
Power cycle the instrument.
