How to run the NovaSeq X Series 1.5B Flow Cell Recipe Installer on the NovaSeq X Plus

Background

TheNovaSeq X Series 1.5B Flow Cell Recipe Installer must be run on the NovaSeq X Plus to enable sequencing runs using the NovaSeq X Series 1.5B Reagent Kits.

The NovaSeq X Series 1.5B Flow Cell Recipe Installer is available for download on the NovaSeq X Plus Sequencing System Software Downloads page.

Prerequisites

The NovaSeq X Series 1.5B Flow Cell Recipe Installer requires that Control Software v1.2 is installed on the NovaSeq X Plus instrument. If the instrument is currently running Control Software v1.1 or earlier, contact Illumina Tech Support for assistance with requesting this upgrade.

The user must be logged in the Linux Operating System (OS) as an Administrator user such as ilmnadmin to have the appropriate permissions to install the Recipe Installer.

Installing the NovaSeq X Series 1.5B Flow Cell Recipe Installer

  1. Ensure the Linux OS is logged into an Administrator user such as ilmnadmin.

    1. Press the Windows key on the instrument keyboard

    2. Select the dropdown menu in the top-right corner of the screen and check which user is currently logged in.

    3. If the user is an Administrator user such as ilmnadmin, proceed to Step 2.

    4. If the Linux OS is logged into a User account such as ilmnuser, see the following steps:

      1. If the Control Software is open, return to the Control Software home screen and close the application.

      2. Select the Instrument Icon to open the global navigation menu.

      3. Select Settings.

      4. Select Exit Software.

      5. From the Linux OS screen, select the dropdown menu in the top-right corner, then select the user, then select Log Out.

      6. Log into an Administrator user such as ilmnadmin.

  2. Download the following file from the Illumina Software Downloads webpage to the Downloads directory on the instrument:

    1. novaseq-x-series-recipe-patcher-1.2.1.31478-0.noarch.rpm

  3. Run the 1.5B Flow Cell Recipe Installer using the following instructions:

    1. From the Linux OS, select Activities in the top-left corner, then search for the Files application.

    2. Open the Files application and navigate to the Downloads directory.

    3. Double-click the novaseq-x-series-recipe-patcher-1.2.1.31478-0.noarch.rpm file.

    4. Select the blue Install button (Figure 1).

    5. A pop-up will appear to prompt for the Administrator (ilmnadmin) password. Input the Administrator password and then select Authenticate.

    6. The blue Install button will turn to red Remove button upon successful installation (Figure 2).

    7. For additional confirmation of a successful installation of the 1.5B Recipe, navigate to /usr/local/illumina/consumables/default/1and observe if the v1 folder is present (Figure 3).

Troubleshooting Installation Issues

Issue: "Failed to Install File: File Not Supported"

Resolution: This is typically due to the instrument being disconnected from the internet and unable to contact the necessary repositories to install the update. If this issue is observed, contact Illumina Tech Support.


Issue: "The name :1.452 was not provided by any .service files"

Resolution: This warning message can be ignored and does not affect installation.


Issue: "Unable to install novaseq-x-series-recipe-patcher: Error running transaction..."

Resolution: The Control Software needs to be upgraded to version 1.2 before installing the 1.5B Recipe Installer. Contact Illumina Tech Support for assistance with requesting this upgrade.


Issue: The Install pop-up does not present when double-clicking the .rpm file.

Resolution: Power cycle the instrument and then attempt installation again.
