NextSeq 1000/2000 reagents disposal and cartridge recycling tool

The cartridge plastic (plastic component is polycarbonate - in the United States of America, it is plastic #7) may be recyclable according to local solid waste recycling guidelines. Check with the local solid waste recycler or municipality-specific instructions for recycling.

To prepare the cartridge for recycling

Remove the drainage plug under the Illumina logo on the backside of the cartridge over an appropriate area (ie, sink or hazardous liquid waste receptacle, depending on local regulations) with the plug facing horizontal and downward away from the face. Drain used reagents in accordance with applicable standards. Drain time depends on the cartridge size and if the automatic reagent purge in the instrument is enabled or not.

Consult with local Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) forms for disposal of liquid waste and solid waste (black plastic housing).

• For new instrument installs, the recycling tool ships with the instrument.

How to use the NextSeq 1000/2000 recycling tool Recycle Cartridge Shell.

Use the following steps to recycle the cartridge shell. The following are the cartridge components. The reagent well plate and flow cell are not recyclable. A. Flow cell trayB. Flow cell shellC. PiercerD. Valve assemblyE. Rotor valve coverF. Bottom shellG. Reagent well plateH. Top shell 1. Make sure the cartridge is drained. 2. Remove the punch tool from the fixture. 3. Position the fixture parallel to the benchtop. 4. Rest the cartridge on top of the fixture's prybars. It is not necessary to push the cartridge down.

1. Align the cartridge with the two rear prybars.

2. Align the punch tool with the label on top of the cartridge.
3. Using heavy force, press down quickly on the punch tool to separate the cartridge shell. If insufficient force is applied the cartridge shell might not separate completely. If the cartridge shell is only partially separated, remove the cartridge from the fixture, close the shell, and then apply additional force with the punch tool.
4. Remove the piercer from the cartridge.
5. Remove the cover from the forward rotor valve assembly.
6. To remove the flow cell shell, perform one of the following:• Insert a flat-head screwdriver between the flow cell shell and lower assembly and then lift. • Pull the flow cell shell off the lower assembly.
7. To remove the reagent well plate from the lower assembly, disconnect one snap on one side of the lower assembly, and then remove the reagent well plate.
8. Disconnect both snaps on the flow cell tray, and then remove the flow cell tray.

9. Remove the metal spring from the flow cell tray.

10. Disconnect the four snaps on the valve assembly by pushing the snaps down and away from the reagent well plate edge.
11. Remove the valve assembly by pulling the underside of the assembly.

12. Dispose of the reagent well plate, which may contain unused reagents, in accordance with applicable local standards and regulations.
