# Can Multiple BeadChip Types Be Scanned in the Same Carrier or iScan Run?

iScan users are not limited to placing the same type of BeadChip in a carrier for scanning. The iScan software allows mixed BeadChip types in the same run and even within the same carrier.

Each BeadChip is scanned separately. During scanning, the barcode on each BeadChip is read, allowing the scanner to identify the BeadChip type and retrieve the appropriate DMAP file from the DMAP repository. The scanner then uses the Sentrix Descriptor File (.sdf file) contained within the DMAP folder to determine the scan parameters and perform the scan.

In summary, because each BeadChip is identified independently through its barcode and scanned using its corresponding DMAP files, multiple BeadChip types can be included in the same carrier and scanned within the same iScan run.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://knowledge.illumina.com/microarray/general/microarray-general-faq-list/000009187.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
