# Can Infinium BeadChips that have been frozen still be used?

Infinium BeadChips that have been frozen should not be used. The beads are held in pits on the surface of the chip by Van der Waals forces and the expansion and contraction caused by temperature extremes can cause the beads to fall out. Additionally, the surface of the beads can be damaged by freezing and the oligos can shear off.

BeadChips are shipped at room temperature and should be stored at 2-8°C upon receipt.

For additional information, see [The correct storage temperature for Infinium BeadChips is 2-8°C](/microarray/general/microarray-general-reference_material-list/000002839.md).
