# General information regarding RNA samples in the TruSight Oncology 500 (TSO500) v1 and v2 workflows

**What is the protocol for preparing RNA samples in the TSO500 workflow?**\
Refer to the [TSO500 v1 reference guide](https://support.illumina.com/downloads/trusight-oncology-500-reference-guide-1000000067621.html) or the [TSO500 v2 product documentation](https://support.illumina.com/sequencing/sequencing_kits/trusight-oncology-500-v2/documentation.html) for the protocol; both the DNA and RNA protocols are included in the guides.

**Are the Unique molecular identifier (UMI) adapters also used for RNA samples?**\
In the v1 workflow, no, they are not; UMI adapters are used for DNA samples only. In the v2 workflow, the UMI adapters are used for both DNA and RNA samples.

**Is the RNA content in the TSO500 DNA/RNA the same as the TruSight Tumor 170 (TST170) RNA content?**\
Yes, TSO500 uses the TST170 RNA probe panel, OPR1.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://knowledge.illumina.com/library-preparation/trusight-oncology-tumor-library-prep/library-preparation-trusight-oncology-tumor-library-prep-reference_material-list/000003171.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
