System waste frequently asked questions for the Illumina Protein Prep Automation System (IPPAS)
If the trough used to collect the liquid biohazard waste is not emptying fully, causing waste to accumulate and not flow into the 4 L collection container underneath the desk in the cabinet, how to resolve this issue?
The cap should be installed tightly. If the cap is tight but there is still an issue, try to lightly unscrew the cap of the 4 L bottle to allow waste to flow.
Is there a proper way to dispose of tips that have fallen outside of the biohazardous waste bin?
To reduce tips being dropped outside of the bin, it is recommended to use a taller, square bin and to push it to the back right corner as much as possible.
To install a taller waste bin:
Remove the waste chute from the instrument
Place the taller bin underneath the waste chute area
Replace the waste chute. Note: make sure the waste chute is properly seated upon replacing so the RGA will not crash
For tips that have been dropped, use gloves and treat the tips as biohazardous. In addition, be aware of the sharp tip points, as there is a risk of glove tearing or skin puncturing.
How to resolve wafers stacking up in the solid waste container, preventing more wafers from dropping in?
To resolve, shake the container to settle wafers to allow more to fall in. This may need to be repeated multiple times as more wafers accumulate.
