# Workflow frequently asked questions for the Illumina Protein Prep Automation System (IPPAS)

**How is barcode scanning done? What does the manual process look like?**

* The IPPAS (RGA) will scan anything on deck.
* Use the below-deck hand scanner to scan info on QC tubes or if RGA scanning fails.
  * It is also possible to manually type barcodes into ILASS if needed (eg, during water runs or if barcodes are smudged).

**If the reagent barcodes are unreadable both by automated and manual scanning, what is the workaround to resolve this problem?**

* For customer sample runs, ILASS will display the expected barcode format so a barcode can be entered manually. Example:
  \*

  ```
  ![](/files/495U72daP0dgJAauYRiy)
  ```

  * “Enter \[0-9]{6}\[A-Z]{1}” means enter 6 numbers (0-9) and 1 letter (A-Z), example: 123456A

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://knowledge.illumina.com/library-preparation/multiomics-library-prep/library-preparation-multiomics-library-prep-faq-list/000009786.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
