# Troubleshooting a dry system thermal pre-run check failure on the NovaSeq X Series

**Background**

For NovaSeq X Series instruments, a pre-run check is performed prior to sequencing. During this process, the thermal check in the dry check may occasionally result in a failure. In such cases, a message similar to the one shown below may be displayed on the control software.

TemperatureAirxxx with value ## DegC was greater than ## DegC.

**Troubleshooting steps**

1. Check the laboratory environment.
   * Verify the room temperature. If it is higher than the acceptable range, request that it be lowered.
   * Check the filter condition:
     * Make sure the filter has been replaced appropriately.
     * Confirm that the filter is not blocked or clogged.
2. Retry the Pre-Run Check, by selecting Retry.
3. If the error occurs again:
   \*
   * Power cycle the instrument.
   * Reconfigure and start the run again.
4. If the issue persists, contact [Illumina Technical Support](https://www.illumina.com/company/contact-us.html#/united-states/technical-support).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://knowledge.illumina.com/instrumentation/novaseq-x-x-plus/instrumentation-novaseq-x-x-plus-troubleshooting-list/000010228.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
