# How to update the TLS Certificates on the NovaSeq X Plus instruments

**Background**

The NovaSeq X Series instruments use Transport Layer Security (TLS) certificates to ensure that the internal network connections are operating securely. These certificates need to be updated periodically to ensure they are up to date.

If the NovaSeq X Series Control Software identifies that the certificates are nearing expiration, the following warning presents to the user that the TLS Certificates are expiring:

Your TLS certificate expires in ## days.

To resolve this issue, contact [Illumina Technical Support](https://www.illumina.com/company/contact-us.html) or your local Field team for assistance.
