# How to perform the Factory Restore on the MiSeq i100 Series

**Background**

The Factory Restore option allows Administrator users to restore the instrument to the default factory settings if there is an irrecoverable error on the MiSeq i100 Series instrument.

**Important Information**

The Factory Restore option **PERMANENTLY ERASES** all data on the instrument including Sequencing Run data, and should only be performed at the explicit recommendation of Illumina Technical or Field Support teams. The DRAGEN BCL Convert application is the only Application that is retained on Factory Restore, all other DRAGEN Applications must be re-installed after completing the Factory Restore and First Time Setup.

The Factory Restore process takes about 90 minutes and it cannot be canceled after it is initiated.

**Resolution Actions**

If the Factory Restore option is recommended by either Illumina Technical Support or Field Support teams, see the following steps to complete the process:

1. Login to the **MiSeq i100 Series Control Software** using a local **Administrator** account.
2. Select the **menu icon** in the top-left corner, then select **Settings**.
3. Select **Factory Restore**.
4. Review the information presented on the **Factory Restore** page, and select **Restore** to proceed.
5. Once complete, the instrument will **restart** to complete the process. Do NOT power cycle or restart the instrument during the Factory Restore process.
6. Once the Control Software has initialized, complete **First Time Setup**.

7. If additional **DRAGEN Applications** are required, download and re-install desired **DRAGEN Applications** and associated **Reference Genomes**.

8. Re-install the **DRAGEN License** files:
   1. *Online Installation*
      1. Login to the MiSeq i100 Series Control Software using a local **Administrator** account.
      2. Select the **menu icon** in the top-left corner, then select **Settings**.
      3. Select **DRAGEN**, then select the **License** tab.
      4. Select **Update from license server**.
      5. Once installation is complete, confirm that the **Valid Until** and **Serial Number** fields have populated.
