# Air Filter replacement on the MiSeq i100

The air filter is single use and covers the fan in the back of the instrument. It ensures proper cooling and prevents debris from entering the system. The instrument is shipped with one air filter installed and one spare. Additional air filters are included with an active instrument service contract (filters are not sent automatically; rather, users can request them by sending an email to Illumina Technical Support, <techsupport@illumina.com>), or they can be purchased separately from Illumina.
